Cyanocobalamin is used for prophylactic and treatment of cyanocobalamin deficiency caused anaemia.

For use in vitamin B-12 deficiency associated with cobalt deficiency in cattle and sheep and for vitamin B-12 deficiency associated with inadequate vitamin B-12 intake or intestinal malabsorption in swine and horses.

Vitamin B complex is used to prevent and treat vitamin B deficiencies in horses. Injectable prescription B vitamin complex usually contains thiamine, riboflavin, pyridoxine, niacinamide, d-panthenol, and cyanocobalamin.

The B complex vitamins are water-soluble and reserves are not stored in the body, so daily intake is required. Good quality pasture contains high levels of these vitamins, but cereal grains that make up concentrated ‘hard’ feeds have a low or imbalanced content of natural vitamins.

The vitamin B complex, specifically thiamin (B-1) and B-12, is responsible for the metabolism of the horse’s nutrients, such as fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. (Intrafer-200 B12)

Other B vitamins that assist with nutrient metabolism are riboflavin (B-2) and pantothenic acid (B-5). Riboflavin is required for the health of the mucous membranes in the digestive tract. Panthothenic acid assists some of the glands and hormones that aid the metabolism of nutrients.

Indications of Intrafer-200 B12
Prophylaxis and treatment of anaemia in calves and piglets.

Contraindications
Administration to animals with vitamin E deficiency. Administration to animals with diarrhoea. Administration in combination with tetracyclines, because of the interaction of iron with tetracyclines.

Side effects
Muscle tissue is coloured temporarily by this preparation. Leaking of injection fluid can cause a persistent discoloration of the skin. Intrafer-200 B12; Iron dextran is used for prophylactic and treatment of iron deficiency caused anaemia in piglets and calves.

Dosage

For intramuscular or subcutaneous administration:

Calves:
2 – 4 ml subcutaneous, in the first week after birth.

Piglets:
1 ml intramuscular, 3 days after birth.

None.
